The history of the stock market in Colombia dates back to 1928, when the Bogotá Stock Exchange was created, which was the first of its kind in the country. Over time, other important stock exchanges were founded, such as those in Medellín and the West, each of which operated independently and contributed to the development of the stock market in their respective regions. For several decades, these exchanges operated without formal integration, which meant that each one had its own regulations and procedures.
However, a significant change occurred in July 2001, when the decision was taken to unify these stock exchange institutions to result in the creation of the Colombian Stock Exchange, also known as the BVC. This integration process not only allowed us to combine resources and capacities, but it was also essential to strengthen the stock market as a whole.
